History of Underwater Hockey
Underwater Hockey was first named Octopush during the discovery in 1954. At Southsea Sub-Aqua Club in England, creator Alan Blake was worried that members would not attend the club during cooler months when the sea would be too cold to dive. Consisting of 8 players per team (octo), each holding a pushher (a bat similar to a small shuffleboard stick), the player must move the lead sheet without a sheath to the opponent's net.

Since being introduced to Australia in 1966, underwater hockey has become a popular sport, with the first Australian Underwater Hockey Championship held in 1975 in Margaret River, Western Australia. Following the success of the title, the women's division was added in 1981, followed by the junior division in 1990.
With the recognition of the title, Australia is in the top 40, including winning several world championships. The 2016 World Championship saw Australia bring home gold for the sons, elites and masters, as well as the women's team, with the elite placing sixth and 1st.

Today, two teams of ten players face each other in six-player to matches at a time. Players start the game on the water, touching the wall above their destination.
