Team captains Alex Colet and Chari May Ongyanco were very interested in the potential of the SEA Games after extensive training and exposure to high calibre competition as part of their improvement.
"We have a high chance of winning the SEA Games gold and the aim is for us to win everything," Ongyanco said in Filipino on Saturday at Vermosa Sportshub here. "We play in the Asian Championships and we compete in the World."
The Philippines expects big challenges for the three other countries in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore in the two-year meeting.
But the home side is confident of completing their task of facing tougher competition in the past, especially Australia, which is one of the best underwater hockey countries in the world.
And that is one of the advantages of the Philippines compared to other countries.
"If you play against Kobe Bryants, as you say, then the Asian team we will fight against is Kobe Bryants because, in the world championship, Australia is in third place," said Colet, a World Stage veteran who will lead the men's team.
"Since we played against Australia, we have set standards and even intensity in games that we think we can carry in games that our competitors haven't experienced," added Colet, who plays the role of centre back.
The Nationals, who want to win all four gold medals at stake, will play December 2-5 at Vermosa Sportshub.
