Beginner Classes are Trying out Water Hockey Equipment Before Swimming Sessions
Look easy? Bobby Agus called this sport an extreme sport because players must be able to master the game and how to play but at the same time, must be able to process their oxygen levels. "This is crazy! In other sports, you only need to focus on the game and not have to worry about your breathing. But in water hockey, you play while holding your breath, "said Bobby. However, Bobby said he would continue to practice. Thankfully!
Currently Bobby is at the novice level, one level higher than the beginner. At this level, the trainer will teach swerve and flick techniques. Swerve is a movement where the player changes the direction of the puck (the ball in water hockey) suddenly to protect from competing opponents and flick is when the puck is raised floating from the bottom of the pool by using a stick then directed towards a teammate or to score a goal.
Coach Rendy Teaches about Water Hockey Equipment
Coach Arif Junus said body fitness was very important in this sport helping players achieve the speed and strength needed in water hockey. "There will be variations in BOGDAT (Breathe Once Go Down and Touch), free style swimming portions using frog shoes or not using frog shoes and regular menus such as Half Over Half Under (HOHU), Half Under Half Over (HUHO) and apnea (swimming in the water with one breath for a certain distance) to forge the stamina of new members, "said Arif.
Next is the right position and down time. Finding a good position at the right time is very important because in water hockey, the communication strategy is silent communication. It is impossible to talk with teammates in the water, so each player must use his intuition to put himself in the team formation, up and down and help teammates. Usually it takes several months for players to be able to have the instincts of the right time to dive and put themselves in position during play.
So, are you new to water hockey? Prepare yourself for this challenge, don't give up and use your time as best you can to absorb all the information from your coach and teammates. Enjoy each phase in this challenging sport ... water hockey. See you at the bottom! Every Monday - Thursday, at 19:30, at the Bulungan Pond.
